In HOG’s home town of, Acworth, Georgia, the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department and The Special Needs Development Group offer a unique service to our citizens, in the form of a Special Needs athletic program.
At our local baseball park, an entire field is devoted to kids and adults with special needs. There are organized events for these athletes all year-round; in the spring and fall, they play baseball on the “Horizon Field.” This is a vibrant service provided in love by a lot of dedicated folks¦ including Helping One Guy founder, Bob Kelly, and others at HOG. In addition to volunteering with the league, Helping One Guy has held a Breakfast with Santa every year where all proceeds have been donated to the league. On May 2, 2024, the Special Needs Development Group honored Bob and Helping One Guy by ceremonially retiring a jersey in his honor. (Uniform number 12 symbolizes 2012 – the year HOG was founded and began supporting the Horizon League.)
In all, three jerseys were retired that day. In addition to Helping One Guy’s Number 12, HOG partners and sponsors Cobb EMC Foundation (Number 5) and NorthStar Church (Number 97) were also honored for their respective long service to the program. We are so proud of our association with Cobb EMC Foundation and NorthStar Church – as well as incredibly proud of our own Bob Kelly!
