Meet Craig and his family and read their story:
On April 30th, 2015, Craig Paine and his best friend Mark decided to take a relaxing afternoon bike ride in rural Emerson, GA. Craig was hit by a car and catapulted off his motorcycle onto the shoulder of the road. He suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be life-flighted to Grady Memorial Hospital for immediate surgery. He was in the hospital from May 1 to June 5, splitting his time between Grady and Atlanta Medical Center.
Craig lost his left leg and spleen. He suffered liver damage, broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder and lost one of the three ligaments in his shoulder.. He is in the process of being fitted for a prosthetic, which could take up to a year due to fitting issues. He is at risk for infections and blood clots because he lost his spleen, which monitors the white blood count in his body. He can only lift his left arm up to his chest due to losing one of his shoulder ligaments. The doctors are recommending a shoulder replacement surgery.
Craig is the owner and only technician of Acworth Muffler Shop, located at 5000 Lake Acworth Drive, Acworth, GA. Craig and his wife, Lucia, have operated the muffler shop in the community for 24 years. However, due to Craig’s injuries, he will never be able to re-open his business. The business is for sale and if no one purchases it, he will have to sell the equipment as he cannot renew his lease. The family has been without an income since the accident on April 30th.
Craig and Lucia have four children. Justin, 34, Jenna, 31, Jesse, 28 and Courtney, 21. Currently, Courtney is currently living with her parents and is working at a local restaurant.
