Within days of hip replacement surgery, Jamie Barger of Kennesaw, had a hard time swallowing. He thought it was the pain meds but it only got worse. After several weeks of medication changes that offered no relief, he was sent for an emergency endoscopy. From there he was rushed to the hospital for more intense testing. Within 48 hours Jamie was diagnosed with stage 4 esophagus cancer. It had spread to the lymph nodes and liver. He was immediately put on a feeding tube because by this point had gone weeks without nutrition. Since then they have lived in a whirlwind of emotions. The day Jamie was diagnosed his father was put on hospice for brain cancer.
